Despite his small size, Kadal is not a leader to be underestimated. As the Duke of Blackrock Pass, his domain controls one of the most important routes through the iron highlands of Kharrow, making him both respected and politically influential.

Many see Kadal as stern, demanding, and occasionally overbearing. What few realize is that much of this behavior stems from a lifelong fear of being seen as inadequate.

Unlike many nobles, Kadal was not born into power. Every title, every responsibility, and every achievement had to be earned. While this has made him fiercely competent, it has also left him constantly questioning whether he truly deserves the authority he holds.

As a result, he pushes both himself and others relentlessly. Failure frustrates him not because he hates mistakes, but because he remembers all too clearly what it felt like to be underestimated.

Ironically, this insecurity has made him unusually supportive of ambitious apprentices, laborers, and young officers. While he rarely offers praise openly, many of Kharrow's most successful craftsmen and commanders credit Kadal with giving them opportunities when no one else would.

His rivals often describe him as controlling.

His allies describe him as dependable.

Both are correct.
